Gravel and Chippings

Is your outdoor space forlorn and uninspiring, barely touched since you moved in?

Are the spiders enjoying it more than you are this summer?

Have you relied on the limited charms of concrete but are eager to make changes?

Rivar Sand and Gravel have a captivating suggestion: Gravel and chippings.

This excellent material doesn’t carry a hefty price tag and it is robust, aesthetically pleasing and long lasting.

Some types of gravel cost just a few pounds per bag but these may have inspired images of bland colours and inelegant pointy and crunchy shards, if so, you’re not acquainted with modern gravel and chippings.

There is a beauty to the gravel products that we supply that a block of grey concrete can’t compete with. Gravel and chippings are in either 10mm or 20mm sizes and the materials used are often locally sourced to help your landscaping meld with the surroundings.

For example, Thames Valley Flint is used in our 10mm brown gravel, however the gravel itself is actually a mixture of brown, toffee and white stones and this colour palate is subtle but pleasant to the eye.

The flint is enduring and is perfect for use for edging a flowerbed and for paths and driveways plus it can be utilised as pea gravel which means it can be laid by water. It provides excellent drainage wherever it is placed.

A hugely cost effective alternative is our 25kg bags of 10mm gravel in tones of browns and gold. It can be used in any exterior location to great visual advantage and costs only a few pounds per 25kg.

If you find black and white more appealing the 10mm moonstone is a sublime choice. It’s made from Thames Valley Flint, is angular and durable and it lends itself to paths, driveways, pond edging, over soil in plant pots and as a mulch.

For dramatic white gravel choose white dolomite in the 10mm size. It is wonderfully inexpensive and catches the eye. The gravel has quartz in it which makes it glisten so your gravelled space will seem alive.

The more natural light and sunshine the gravel sees, the more magical it becomes. White gravel set against a black edging or surface can take your space from tired and retro to bold and futuristic.

It is important to note white dolomite is prone to algae therefore it is best if kept away from regularly damp locations such as when used to border pools and ponds.

In the 20mm gravel size we offer grey limestone. This material is enduring, angular and decorative. It works well on paths, driveways and for edging purposes.

If you are looking for chunky buff coloured gravel then we can recommend 20mm South Cerney gravel. It is regularly used for driveways and is semi-rounded so that it doesn’t travel as other chippings might.

The choice of gravels at Rivar Sand and Gravel is extensive and we would love to help you select your perfect gravel product.
