A few weeks ago we received the brilliant news that we had achieved our Silver Award from Surfers Against Sewage (SAS).
After qualifying for our bronze award last year we knew that we wanted to take this further, after uploading the business toolkit from SAS we realized it was definitely an achievable goal.
After eliminating single use plastic cups, single use plastic drinks bottles and single use water bottles for the bronze award we had to eliminate another 2 single use plastic items from the SAS worst offenders list.
We chose to stop using disposable coffee cups and disposable spoons in our kitchens, all of the plastics that we have chosen to stop using are saving us money. After the initial outlay of the replacement products in our case metal spoons and ceramic mugs we don’t have to order them anymore from the suppliers which is a substantial saving.
The last item on the silver award objectives was to support a plastic free initiative. As we are long time supporters of Eco Friends this was an easy task!
Over the last year we have supported Eco Friends in many ways, helping at the mass unwrap at the local Co-Op, helping to run a stall at the Corn Exchange Eco Fair and running a water refill stall at the Thatcham Family Fun Day to name a few!
With the dash board complete our application was successful and we were presented with our silver award by Nikki from Eco Friends.
Although we do not yet qualify for the Gold award, we will continue to strive to make our business as environmentally friendly as we can whist supporting local charities and organisations along the way.
